Al Schacht's Restaurant - New York City

“Al Schacht’s” was a baseball-themed, fine-dining restaurant located at 102 E. 52nd Street at Park Avenue in Manhattan, right smack in New York City.  Born in the Bronx and one of the first Jewish players in Major League Baseball history, Schacht was a talented pitcher during the 1920s who had to retire prematurely due to an arm injury, which paved the way for his entry into the restaurant business.  “Schacht’s” was filled with baseball memorabilia and was a popular hang out spot for major leaguers.  In addition, the restaurant was featured in such major Hollywood films as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and was also just down the block from Marilyn Monroe’s infamous “subway grate.”  “Schacht’s” was a highly successful Manhattan institution through the 1940s and 50s and closed sometime during the 1960s.  Its building was demolished and today Schacht’s former location is a business complex.
